SCULPTURE NEW HOPE
OUTDOOR EXHIBIT 2007
Eight new pieces were selected for the Outdoor
Exhibition and another four previously installed pieces remained
to bring the total of installations to twelve. New locations were
added to the open-air museum and more were offered for future installations. “This
is very exciting, “ explains Nw Hope Arts Director Robin
Larsen. “We began 4 years ago installing 5 pieces of outdoor
work. We have now grown to include a total of 12 this year.”

Victoria Donohoe,
art critic, Philadelphia Inquirer
"A twin bill that suggests a kind of symphony of artworks going on. And
it’s also now the visual symbol of New Hope. It’s significant to
find a new formed art organization able to mount a sculpture show of this size
and complexity, one that manages so accurately to reflect the interests and pulse
of contemporary society. New Hope Arts Inc. is a name to remember for this commendable
annual show and future art events."

Monumental works range from Harry Gordon’s 40-ton abstract
stone Granite Arch that signals the Rt. 202 “backdoor” entrance
to New Hope to the wonderful lifelike, steel River Elk sculpted
by Wendy Klemperer installed in Ingham Creek at the rear of the
Artworks
Building on Mechanic Street. Artists currently included in the
Outdoor Sculpture Show are Deborah Masters. Patrick McDonald,
Gunnar Theel,
Harry Gordon, Kevin Forest, Dana Stewart and Wendy Klemperer.
Artists whose works will be installed mid-May 2006 include Carl
Billingsley,
Jim Gallucci and Elizabeth Miller McCue.
Gunnar
Theel, exhibiting sculptor
"In a large city like
NYC, where events pile on top of each other, one easily
forgets the people that make events possible. At the
New Hope Sculpture Exhibition I was impressed by the
energy, enthusiasm, and sheer fun organizers, volunteers,
and patrons contributed to make this show happen.
I was also very impressed by the quality
and diversity of the sculptures presented at the New Hope
Sculpture Exhibition. …The selected works show the
professionalism Robin and the committee employed towards
this exhibition." |
All
outdoor sculptors are paid a stipend for exhibiting their works
and New Hope Arts assumes expenses associated with installation
and insurance. This year, New Hope Arts has staggered installations
and length of exhibition time for outdoor installations. All new
works
remain on exhibit for a minimum of one year and some - like the
Arch - will remain as long as five years.
INDOOR EXHIBIT
We are updating our website and will add new information
and photos soon.
OTHER
In conjunction with the indoor and outdoor exhibitions,
New Hope Arts sponsored Artspeak, a series of gallery talks held
Saturday evenings at 7PM throughout the show. Guests enjoyed a
wine and cheese reception and the opportunity to meet artists and
learn more about the creative process. Many of the talks featured
more than one artist and some included demonstrations by the sculptors.
On Sundays from 2-4PM NHArts hosted Artsounds,
a series of informal music concerts where area musicians played
in the Stockton Avenue gallery space among the artwork. The series
included a variety of music including progressive improvisantial
space music to acoustic celtic & folk music.
The exhibition was open Thursday through Sunday
from 12noon - 5PM through June 4, 2006. |
